Richard Roby: Japan is such a safe and friendly country
33 years old forward Richard Roby has experience from Japan, South Korea, France, Greece, Israel, Mexico, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, G-League. He could talk about his career hours and hours.
The country I enjoyed the most was Japan. Japan is such a safe and friendly country. It made it easy for me and my family to adjust. They always do the business the right way and they make sure the American players are always taking care of.
Basketball in Europe has more of a team oriented philosophy where they want everyone to score and participate. In Asia they heavily rely on the American players to produce and create for other players. In the USA you have to adjust to playing and having chemistry with many other talented players. In South America the games are physical and teams are cut-throat in how they rotate and cut Americans. Players are talented and I feel with be competitive in fiba I’m up coming years as they continue to get more resources.
Osaka is probably the best city I played in. They have a lot fun things to do. My girls used to go to Universal Studios a lot. And they have many American restaurants. It’s really close to Koyoto where all the famous shrine and Nars deer park as well which are famous staples in Japan.
(Funny story)In Israel we were in a high speed chase from a taxi driver that didn’t like the tip we gave him. So he chased us in his car for like 10 tens until we finally eluded him.
According to me, Japan has the best atmosphere beacuse you can focus on basketball and not worry about the business side of things going wrong. Whatever they say in the contract is what it´s done. People are friendly and the fans support you wherever you go.
